Spain seems to be the hotspot to watch right now as we keep receiving sizzling updates from this colourful place from various friends. Spanish-born designer Jaime Hayon grew up in Madrid’s skateboard and graffiti art culture, and has a big name within industrial design. After about 8 years spearheading the Design Department of Benetton-funded Fabrica, he founded his own Hayon Studio. The multiple award-winning designer has recent projects including Camper shoes which we think could suit a guy with style.
Available in an array of colours and two different models, a soft-leather slip-on and a lace-up, the Camper is a fusion between a sporty dance shoe and a classic dress shoe. There are also some hidden surprises such as the feel of the laces or the linen interior, the mix of materials and the quality of its manufacturing. The colour choices allow the shoes to be picked out for all types of occasions and seasons – from conservative busi
ness meetings to crazy summer nights out in town.
Hayon himself says; “I wanted to find a form that stylised the foot, like the tap dancing shoes. I have always liked the character of dance shoes because they remind me of a music-hall. I wanted to make a simple shoe but one that had character, in solid colours but that were special enough to give identity to a way of dressing. If for me, and also for many others, glasses are important in creating the personality of a person, I think that shoes should be so too”
